2. Determine the adoption fee if you decide that you must get rid of your dog. An adoption fee insures the new owner is serious about getting a dog, not just getting a free one.
3. Speak with your vet to see if she's aware of anyone looking for a new dog. She may have a client who recently lost a dog and would like to adopt another one. You can also ask to post a flyer at the clinic if there's a bulletin board.
4. Place an ad online or in your local newspaper. Your town website may have a want ad section or you can list your pet on Craigslist. A pet-specific website, such as The Poop, can also help you place your dog.
5. Decide the next step if you can't find your dog a home. No-kill organizations may be able to take your dog, but usually require a placement fee.
