Petfinder.com is a website dedicated to helping pets and would-be pet owners find one another. There are hundreds of ads to browse, ranging from animal rescue listings to posts made by individuals needing to find a new home for a pet. Petfinder often hosts ads for dogs, cats, barnyard animals and even exotics.
Instructions
1. Log onto the Petfinder.com website and click on "Classifieds" towards the top of the page. Familiarize yourself with the rules for classified posts. It is important to note that Petfinder does not permit breeders to place advertisements on the website. Do not post "free to good home" on Petfinder as the moderators of the site see these postings as compromising the safety of the animals.
2. Click on the "Post a free Classified ad" tab at the bottom of the page. Review the list of suggestions. Some good advice on avoiding Internet scams is available on this page. Also, someone who refuses to meet the pet in person may not be a suitable new owner for an adopted pet.
3. Click on "Registration Details and Privacy Info" to review the terms of use and the privacy policies. As of December 2009, Petfinder will not sell or share contact information without permission.
4. Complete the Petfinder visitor registration form by providing a username, email address, date of birth and a password. This form provides the opportunity to receive a Petfinder newsletter and free coupons and discounts from Petfinder's sponsors. These communications are optional and can be avoided by leaving those boxes blank.
5. Click on "Submit" to fill in personal and contact information such as name, phone number, city, state and postal code. Fill out the pet information on this form as well. List the type of animal, type of posting (choose from "adoptable pets" or "lost and found") and the ad content. Click "Submit" then wait for responses to be delivered to the email address provided.
