Sending donations of bottled water can save lives during natural disasters.
Without water, we will perish. During the many natural disasters that have struck in the past few years, certain companies have gone above and beyond their 'profit margins' and have reached out, through the donation of bottled water, in humanitarian efforts to help out the victims of these disasters.
Haiti Earthquake Relief
Many companies donated bottled water to Haiti during the earthquake of 2010.
After the devastation in the 2010 Haiti earthquake many companies donated bottled water on a large scale. For example, Efficient Technology, Inc. joined in a partnership with Ecousable to donate filtered water bottles to Haiti. Their efforts involved building a website (see Resources) in order to sell Ech2o bottles. For every two Ech2o bottles sold before March 31, 2010, Efficient Technology, Inc., donated one bottle to the Haiti earthquake relief effort.
Another big contributor of bottled water was Nestle Waters who pledged $1 million dollars in bottled water to Haiti during this disaster.
Pakistan Flood Relief
Large amounts of bottled water were donated during the Pakistan Flood of 2010.
During the 2010 flood disaster in Pakistan the following companies donated safe bottled water to those suffering and in need:
• Community Development Foundation
• BP Foundation
• Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI)
• GlaxoSmithKline
• Western Union
• Wackenhut
• Sultan & Sons
Camden Village Flood
After the drinking well was flooded in Camben, Walmart generously donated water to the local school.
After the 2010 flood in Camden, Ohio, the wells providing drinking water to one of the local elementary schools became contaminated and dangerous to drink. In order to keep the school up and running, Walmart donated 38,000 bottles of water to Camden Village Elementary School.
Hurricane Katrina
Millions of cans of water were donated during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a number of companies including Alcoa, ARCO Aluminum, Novelis, Crown Cork and Seal, Ball Corporation, Crown, Rexam Association and Anheuser-Busch donated millions of cans of clean bottled water to the relief efforts.
