Great Pyrenees are bred to work and make decisions while alone.
Potty training your Great Pyrenees can be accomplished if you set rules and follow them persistently. For example, always go to the same door to let your Pyrenees out to relieve itself. Additionally, be sensitive to the signals your Pyrenees gives indicating it needs to relieve itself.
Crating
Place your Pyrenees in an appropriate-sized crate/cage when you are not directly engaged with it. When your puppy/dog whines or becomes agitated, remove it from the crate and take it outside to relieve itself. This teaches your Pyrenees to let you know when it needs to relieve itself.
Scheduling
Take your Pyrenees out to potty every two hours. Once your Pyrenees is able to make it through the night without whining to be let outside, let your Pyrenees outside to relieve itself first thing in the morning, after meals, after water breaks, after naps, right before bed and any other time it is restless.
Distinguishing Whines
Distinguish between whines that indicate dissatisfaction and the whine that says I need to go potty. Never neglect any whine already distinguished as an I-need-to-go-potty whine. Otherwise, your Pyrenees will learn to relieve itself in its crate.
Confining
To prepare for accidents until your Pyrenees is completely housebroken, confine your Pyrenees during playtime to a small room or blocked off area in the house and cover the floor with newspaper. This training step can be eliminated once your Pyrenees is finally housebroken.
Potty Spot
Have a designated potty spot for your Pyrenees and always take your Pyrenees to that spot when it is time for it to relieve itself. Your Pyrenees will quickly associate that spot with what it is supposed to do when it gets there.
