Write A Fundraising Solicitation Letter

Write a Fundraising Solicitation Letter

Soliciting businesses for fundraisers is not always an easy job, especially when the economy is suffering and merchants are are getting less generous with their donations. Before you hit the streets, write an effective solicitation letter that can speak for you and help get your foot into a possibly closing door.

Instructions

1. Keep it simple. The merchant you will be soliciting will most likely be busy so a one-page letter is more than enough to get your message across.

2. Use letterhead. A solicitation letter that has the school or organization logo, address, and contact phone number will give a more professional appearance and start the process off on the right foot.

3. In the first paragraph, briefly outline a few facts about the organization that will be benefiting from the fundraiser.

4. In the second paragraph, explain the venue of the fundraiser (Beef and Beer? Casino night? 5K Run?), the date, and what the funds will be used for (books for the school library? Cancer research?).

5. In the third paragraph tell the merchant that their donation will be 100% tax deductible and include your organization's federal tax id number if possible.

6. Finally, thank the merchant for their support. If there will be a merchant list at the fundraiser (in the form of an event program or sponsor listing), let them know that their business name and information will be viewed by everyone at the event. They will be pleased to get some advertising in return for their donation.
