2. Determine whether a Chihuahua is the right kind of dog for you and your family. Chihuahuas require a great deal of attention and always want your affection. Make sure you and your family are not allergic to Chihuahua hair.
3. Spend time with someone else's pet Chihuahua if possible. You will be able to get an idea of the breed's general disposition.
4. Investigate the health risks. Be fully aware of all medical difficulties faced by Chihuahuas as well as the expenses in repairing them. Know specifically about hypoglycemia, seizure, and moleras.
5. Research local breeders and seek testimonials and recommendations wherever possible.
6. Meet the breeder in person and be sure to meet the mother of the puppies if possible. Use your breeder as a resource on care for a new dog and don't forget to ask about any breed-specific needs.
