Community Service Projects For Teens

Community service projects are a great way for teens to get involved in and give back to their communities. These projects also give teens a deeper understanding of the world around them and a deeper sense of empathy. Service projects are a way to try new things and meet new people too. There's such a wide range of volunteer options that teens can probably find a project that they will actually enjoy.

Teaching and Tutoring

There are many things that teens can teach others. Teens can research and prepare special educational presentations to younger students or help out in simpler ways, like helping with math or science problems or even just reading to them. Teens may also have some things to teach to those who are older. For example, teens might visit a senior center or nursing home to teach seniors basic computer schools or work with an emigrant population on their English.

Drives and Fundraisers

People in need can be helped through a donation drive. Teens could organize a drive to gather clothes for the homeless, run a food drive to benefit those who are hungry or collect books for children of poor families, a local library or a program that that sends reading material to prisoners. Around the holidays, teenagers can collect gifts for families that need a little help to make the holidays special. Many schools, both in America and oversees, are in need of school supplies. All of these drives are not only an opportunity to help people immediately, but also a chance to educate the community about groups that are in need. Teens could also organize a blood drive, though only older teens would be allow to participate themselves.

Fundraisers are another possibility. Charities and community organization welcome additional financial support. Teens could work on behalf of these organization by asking community members for support or by organizing an event, like a charity party or bake sale, to collect money to donate.

Clean Up Town

Although it's not the most glamorous job, there is always cleaning to be done, and its an easy project to schedule and organize. Teens can work to clean up the side of a road, a local riverbed or graffiit.
