Durability
Granite holds an edge on marble in terms of durability because it is less porous, which means granite is less likely to stain or scratch. Granite can handle plenty of heat and moisture while the same can not be said about marble. Both materials are generally tough when it comes to dropping a dish on them, though marble is a bit more susceptible to potential damage. If you use the kitchen and cook a lot, granite is the safer bet for the money.
Care
Granite countertops need to be maintained less frequently, though you should still clean them fairly often using a rag and water. You should be much more careful when cleaning a marble countertop as it can stain if just about any cleaning agent is used. With granite, use a mild cleaning agent, if any. Since both surfaces are so smooth, water will generally do the trick. Also refrain from using an abrasive pad when cleaning marble as scratches are a likely outcome. If either countertop is damaged, you have the option of resealing it.
Cost
Granite and marble countertops are both more expensive than other common counter materials made synthetically. If cared for properly, though, both can hold up for several decades and add a little value to any home they appear in. You may need to add support prior to putting in a natural stone countertop because of how heavy it is. Granite can be shipped at a lower cost since it is quarried in the U.S., not just internationally.
Aesthetics
Both granite and marble look very clean and sleek when used as a kitchen countertop. Both also feel cool to the touch. Granite feels a bit harder than marble since it is less porous, though the difference is pretty tough to notice. Both granite and marble are natural stone, so they come in a variety of colors and looks despite the fact that no synthetic materials are brought into the process.
