Become a foster parent in Lorain County, Ohio.


If you are interested in becoming a foster parent in Lorain County, Ohio, you will need to contact Lorain County Children Services to determine your eligibility. In order to become a foster parent, you cannot have any previous criminal convictions. Also, all the members in your family that are over 14 will be required to take a pre-screen drug test. Lorain County Children Services will train all eligible families to care for a foster child.


Instructions


1. Contact Lorain County Children Services to discuss foster care options. You will be asked a series of questions about yourself and family, and why you are interested in becoming a foster parent.


2. Read the pack that is sent from Lorraine County Children Services. It will discuss the type of children that are served and why being a foster parent is important.


3. Attend pre-service training with Lorain County Children Services to learn more about specific issues related to being a foster parent and deal with them. This training is mandatory for all foster parents before becoming licensed.


4. Complete a family assessment, which is a document that is submitted to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. This is a required step in order to receive a foster parent license.


5. Meet your new foster child and make him feel like a welcomed addition to your family. Use your foster training from Lorain County Children Services.
