Clean Up After A Pet Fox

One of the main responsibilities of owning a pet fox is to clean up after him. If your pet lives inside your house, such as a small fennec fox, he may be litter box trained. If you have a larger pet, such as a red fox living outside, he probably uses your yard to relieve himself. Foxes out in the wild mark their territory. As a result, their feces--called scat--and urine have a very strong, unpleasant odor. You will want to clean up after your pet very thoroughly, whether it is an accident on the floor, in the litter box or outside.

Instructions

1. Put on a pair of rubber gloves. You can use dishwashing gloves or disposable surgical gloves.

2. Use a cat litter scoop to pick up scat from the floor, litter box or outside location. Be careful not to touch it without gloves on.

3. Deposit the scat into a plastic grocery bag and tie it up tightly. Fox scat smells a lot like a skunk's spray, so you will want to contain it as much as you can.

4. Throw away the bag containing the fox feces in an outdoor trash receptacle. Make sure the lid is tightly secured.

5. Wipe up urine off the floor or carpet with paper towels, and dispose of promptly.

6. Apply liquid odor and stain solution to the area if your rug or furniture has been soiled. The enzymes will prevent the smell from remaining in your carpet. You can purchase cleaners for this purpose at major pet stores.

7. Spray the room or litter box area with an air freshener or disinfectant spray. This will help rid your house temporarily of your pet fox's smells.

8. Add more clay-based cat litter to the box if you have an indoor pet fox that is box trained.

9. Remove your gloves and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
