National Fire Safety & Health Codes

This building inspector relies upon NFPA codes to do her job.


The National Fire Protection Association publishes and updates more than 300 codes that contain construction standards and safety provisions for building construction, machinery manufacture and operation, and many industrial and commercial processes.


National Fire Code


This fire extinguisher works in accordance with NFPA Code 1.


NFPA 1 is the National Fire Code. The Code contains provisions that, through local adoption, have come to regulate fire protection, building construction, job safety and many other features of our daily lives. The National Fire Code has resulted in a significant reduction to the impacts of fires and other disasters.

The NFPA publishes many codes and standards that impact our daily lives. Among these are: NFPA 30 (Flammable and Combustible Liquids); NFPA 32 (Dry-cleaning Plants); NFPA 45 (Fire Protection for Laboratories); NFPA 52 (Vehicular Gaseous Fuel Systems); and NFPA 54 (National Fuel Gas Code) to name just a few.
