Find A Goldendoodle Breeder In Massachusetts

Goldendoodles are popular because they don't shed as much.

A goldendoodle is a dog that results when a golden retriever is crossed with a poodle. This mixed dog is popular because its tendency to shed less makes it a potential choice for people with allergies. Other attractive traits are its sociability and friendliness. If you are a resident of Massachusetts and are looking for a goldendoodle puppy, there are plenty of resources and breeders available.

Instructions

1. Shelters are full of mixed dog breeds looking for homes.

Start by calling shelters and rescue groups in Massachusetts to see whether they have a goldendoodle. Shelters and rescue groups are filled with dogs, many of them mixed breeds. If you find a goldendoodle in a shelter, you will have found a great companion dog and will have helped a homeless pet for a fraction of the cost of buying a dog from a breeder.

2. Some veterinarians feel comfortable recommending breeders.

Call veterinarians in Massachusetts and ask for referrals to goldendoodle breeders. Some veterinarians may recommend particular breeders because they know they are diligent about their puppies. When crossing a poodle and a golden retriever, there is a risk of producing puppies with inherited problems from both breeds.

3. Contact the Universal Kennel Club International (see Resources) for information about goldendoodle breeders in Massachusetts. Because the goldendoodle is not a purebred dog, it is not registered by the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club. However, clubs such as the Universal Kennel Club International will register dogs with no pedigrees, regardless of their parentage.

4. Check the Goldendoodle Association of North America (see Resources) for a list of breeders in the state of Massachusetts. This is a nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of guiding breeders in establishing reliability in coat, type, health and temperament of goldendoodles. Its registry contains a database of goldendoodles, golden retrievers and poodles approved for registration. Breeders who are members of GANA have agreed to provide proof of health clearances and to abide by a code of ethics.
