Adopt A Penguin

Magellanic Penguin

The penguin is one of the oldest surviving birds on earth. Some believe that the penguin has been around for 50 million years. Many penguin species are now extinct. However, conservation organizations are working to ensure no other penguins become extinct. One way of helping is by adopting a penguin, which is a simple process.

Instructions

1. Go to the International Penguin Conservation Work Group (IPCWG) website. Read over the main page to see what the IPCWG is all about. Scroll to "Why not adopt a penguin?" Click on this link.

2. Read over the page that pops up about adopting a penguin. There is a lot of information on what adopting a penguin entails, including the cost and what you get for your contribution. You will discover that this isn't like other websites where you basically adopt a picture of a penguin in order to fund conservation efforts. You actually are adopting a specific penguin, naming it, and getting up-to-date information about your specific penguin. You will also discover that you will get a digital copy of "The Penguins of South America."

3. Select your method of payment for the adoption. There is no need to worry about continuous billing. You pay to adopt the penguin for one year, with no obligation to renew the adoption yearly. Click either the link to "Pay With a Credit Card," using a secure online order form, or "Pay With PayPal." Clicking "Pay With a Credit Card" will give you a form to fill out your information, including your name, name of penguin, and the number of penguins you want to adopt. If you click "PayPal," you will have to enter your penguin's name and your PayPal email address. The PayPal site will then pop up and allow you to pay.

4. Enter your credit card information after entering personal information and clicking "Checkout." You will have to enter your country and card type first. Then click "Continue" and enter all of your credit card information. Click "Continue" and follow the prompts to finish adopting your penguin(s). If using PayPal, follow the PayPal prompts until you checkout.

5. Wait for your penguin materials to arrive. You will receive regular updates and pictures of your penguin's progress. Remember to renew your adoption each year if you want to ensure that you and you alone maintain your penguin's adopted status.
