Texas reports 4,859 consummated adoptions in 2009.
Texas has more than 60 adoption agencies, including those that facilitate the adoption of children in foster care. According to Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, 5,074 foster children were placed in adoptive homes by licensed adoption agencies in fiscal year 2009. Children available for adoption in Texas range from newborns to teenagers. The Texas Vital Statistics Adoption Team processes adoptions and works with adoption lawyers and the court system to file the required applications and forms.
Instructions
1. Visit the website of the Texas Adoption Resource Exchange and click on View Waiting Children. View photos and profiles of children in foster care who are available for adoption. Check out the adoption information sessions held throughout Texas. There are no fees to adopt a child in foster care.
2. Choose a private adoption agency to assist with an agency adoption. Make an appointment to discuss its adoption process. Agencies require an application, after which an adoption case manager works to match adoptive parents with birth mothers. For a fee, the agency makes all adoption arrangements.
3. Investigate private adoptions. Private adoptions require you to find a birth mother and make all arrangements for adoption. Identify safe ways to let people know of your interest in adopting a child. Don't give your name, address or permanent phone number in a classified ad or on a bulletin board.
4. Decide if you want a foster care adoption, agency adoption or private adoption. Follow through with the application, home study and other requirements to be matched with a child or a birth mother.
