Build a shelter to protect your sheep and provide them with a comfortable place to sleep.
Sheep owners can't keep an eye on their sheep every minute of the day and night. Peace of mind is why a sheep herder should consider investing in a shelter. With a sheep shelter, herders can make sure unsupervised sheep will not go astray. Constructing a shelter for sheep is simple --- these shelters don't have to be fancy.
Instructions
1. Designate a field or yard for your sheep and the sheep dwelling place. The field should be large enough for the number of sheep you have. You need at least 25 square feet of space per sheep. Factor in the space your sheep dwelling will take up.
2. Hammer the 4-foot tall wooden posts into the ground at each corner of the field. Enclose the field with the no-climb horse fencing.
3. Pick one corner inside the fenced area wherein you will build the covered shelter.
4. Create a doorway for your sheep dwelling. Cut a door-shaped swath out of the middle of the 4-by-8-foot pieces of plywood. The door should end up being about one-fourth of the piece of plywood.
5. Screw one side of the hinges into the door. The hinges will go on one of the longer sides of the piece of plywood. Ensure there is a hinge about 6 inches in from the top edge; one at the center edge and one about 6 inches in from the bottom edge of the piece of wood.
6. Screw the other sides of the hinges into the sheet of plywood the door was cut from to reattach the door.
7. Nail the four 4-by-8-foot pieces of plywood together to form a square-shaped shelter. Hammer the four 8-foot posts on each corner of the swelling.
8. Attach the two sheets of tin roofing to the top of the posts using nails. This will be the roof of the covered shelter. Once you have finished constructing your shelter, place dry straw inside the shelter for your sheep to lie on.
