1. Look for volunteer work within schools. Volunteering in a school is especially favorable for those who enjoy children and who would like to start a career in teaching or child care. As long as you have a clean background check, schools will likely be glad to give you volunteer hours. Go to the main office and ask about volunteer opportunities.
2. Ask about volunteer opportunities at libraries. The library is another public venue that often has volunteer work for people of the community. Volunteering at the library will likely consist of shelving books, reading to kids, or answering questions for visitors. Volunteering at a library sharpens clerical and customer service skills.
3. Look into the volunteer organizations in your community. Common volunteer opportunities are found at the YMCA, Goodwill, or Habitat for Humanity. There are many, many volunteer outlets that need motivated, well intentioned people; seek them out!
4. Network for volunteer opportunities. Word of mouth can open up volunteer opportunities that you might not have know about otherwise.
