Standard Operating Procedures Training

Standard operating procedures (SOP) provide formal instruction for how tasks should be conducted and outcomes achieved. Many organizations rely on standard operating procedures to maintain efficiency and conformity in outcomes. The goal of SOP training is compliance with the SOP.

Features

Training on standard operating procedures should cover all aspects of the SOP, including process steps, guidelines and resources. Trainers may use tools such as multimedia presentations, experiential learning situations and tests in the training process. Upon completion of the training, trainees should have the ability to adhere to the SOP and achieve the desired outcome.

Benefits

SOP training ensures that individuals have a complete understanding of the procedure and the expected outcome. Training provides those using the SOP the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the procedure, the rationale for it and any associated pitfalls. Training ensures uniformity in application of the SOP.

Considerations

To be effective, SOP training programs should be targeted to the knowledge level of the trainee. It is often useful to assess the knowledge level of trainees before the program and tailor instruction to the needs and skill level of the students. Disabilities, such as visual impairment, should be taken into consideration.
