Register A Pet Online

Register your pet in a few simple online steps.

Pet registration is important legally and also for participation in the American Kennel Club. The AKC allows your dog into competitions and shows. Registering an exotic pet or a service animal cannot be done online. You can use the online registration feature through the American Kennel Club for your pure bred dog. Fill out the paperwork online and check your registration periodically to find out the status of your application. The breeder will give you a registration application. Have the application in front of you when you sit down to fill out the online application.

Instructions

1. Find the PIN numbers on the paper registration application. They are in the bottom third of the application. There is a number for regular and limited registration. Limited registration will allow your dog to register but will prevent any offspring of your dog from being registered.

2. Choose a name for your puppy. Choose a name that is fewer than 36 characters. Spaces count in the character count. Do not use numbers, symbols or roman numerals in the name. The AKC allows up to 37 dogs to have the same name. Some words are not allowed. Consult the AKC to see the full list of naming restrictions.

3. Enter the registration number on the top left side of the paper registration. Hit continue. This will bring up the online registration application.

4. Fill out the PIN number in the online registration form. Include both numbers for full registration. Input only the number on the left side of the page for limited registration.

5. Fill out the rest of the required information including the litter name, your name and address, a description of your puppy and the date you received your puppy.
