Virtual Safari Games

Safari type video games take place in a virtual version of countries in Africa. The games mimic the activity of people that visit real safaris, which includes observing, photographing or hunting wildlife. Modern safari video games include photo-realistic versions of several animals that live in the natural habitat.

Cabela's African Safari

"Cabela's African Safari" is a hunting simulation game developed by Activision for multiple consoles. The hunting game takes place on safaris in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. You assume the role of a big-game hunter who uses several rifles and shotguns to take down exotic animals. Among the game animals represented in the game are ostrich, antelopes, waterbucks, nyalas, lions, gorillas, wildebeests and elephants.

Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa

"Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa" is a simulation and strategy-based video game developed by Pocketwatch Games for the PC and Mac. The game allows you to create and control a variety of African animals such as lions, zebras, elephants and giraffes in the safari. In order for each animal species to survive, you must observe and learn the behavioral patterns of each animal. Additionally, you must provide a sufficient amount of food and water sources for each species. A positive safari ecosystem will help balance both predators and prey in the wild.

Afrika

"Afrika" is a safari simulation game for the PlayStation 3 developed by Rhino Studios. You assume the role of a photojournalist who must take photos of various animals in their natural environment. The photojournalist can travel by SUV, foot or hot air balloon in the areas of the animals. You earn money based on the quality of the photograph that was taken. Images are taken using the PlayStation 3's Sixaxis motion control and are judged on composition, rarity and clarity.

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011

"Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011" is an action hunting game developed by Activision for multiple consoles. Playing as Cole Rainsford, the main character, you are tasked with entering an African safari to hunt dangerous possessed animals that are attacking and terrorizing the locals. Among the animals that players have to hunt are grizzly bears, baboons, hyenas, warthogs, cougars and crocodiles. The game uses motion controls on the Wii and the PlayStation 3 (using the Move peripheral).
