Apply For Minnesota Snap Food Stamps

The Minnesota Food Support Assistance Program is federally supported and helps low-income residents obtain the food they need in order to have well-balanced meals. Once a person is approved for food stamps, he or she will receive an EBT Minnesota debit card which will allow him or her to purchase food from stores that display the Quest logo. In order to be reviewed for Minnesota food stamps, households must meet the income requirement and fill out a Combined Application Form.

Instructions

1. Determine if you are eligible for the SNAP program. Households must have income at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty guideline, or a total asset limit of $7,000 or less.

2. Locate and click on the "Economic Supports" link on the Minnesota Department of Human Service website. Access and print out the Combined Application Form (PDF) under the "What Is The Next Step?" section. Make sure you know your social security number, income and the number of persons residing in your household to complete the application.

3. Find your nearest county human services office from the "County Human Services" PDF document located under the "What Is The Next Step?" tab. Drop off or mail the Combined Application Form to your designated human services office.

4. Wait for a Minnesota Department of Human Services caseworker to send you a letter confirming the status of your SNAP application. A mandatory interview with a date and time will be highlighted in the letter.

5. Attend the mandatory interview on time so that the caseworker can fully review your eligibility. Bring in valid identification, your social security card, last two recent check stubs, rent or mortgage receipts and a recent utility bill to the interview.

6. Request an optional date or a phone interview if you cannot attend the in-office interview by contacting your local human services office.

7. Await an acceptance letter approving your SNAP benefit monthly amount, your Minnesota EBT Card and PIN number from the Minnesota Department of Human Service. Request an appeal in writing to your human services office if you are denied food stamp benefits and wish to be reconsidered for eligibility.
