Job Description Of A Canine Bomb Detection Position

A canine undergoes training to be obedient and efficient.

A K-9 bomb detection team is a two-part team comprising a handler or trainer and a trained K-9 dog. K-9 bomb handlers are trained and employed by the police, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), or by public and private organizations to detect explosives.

Purpose

K-9 bomb detection is used to track and find explosive devices or chemicals.

K-9 Training

Bomb detection is just one of the abilities of trained K-9s. They are also trained to attack and restrain agitators, endure agitation, and perform focused searches under fire or in busy and crowded areas.

Handler Training

Handlers usually undergo training with their K-9 counterparts in order to bond and develop better communication skills. Handlers must have full control over their K-9 partners.

Employers

Examples of those who employ bomb detection units include the U.S. military, city police, airports and private security forces.

Salary

According to Indeed.com, TSA bomb detection handlers average about $61,000 a year. This pay can change dramatically based on experience, employer and location.
