Find A Free German Shepherd Puppy For Adoption

Be patient and persistent in your search for a free German shepherd puppy.

The German shepherd is one of the most popular breed of dogs in the United States, well-known not only for their magnificent looks and courage but also for their intelligence, loyalty and activeness. These dogs thrive on human interaction within the family and are very cautious of strangers. They do not like being left alone for long periods of time. Respect, firmness, love and praise in equal amounts are needed to train German shepherds. According to Next Day Pets, individuals who are inexperienced with pets or very inactive do not make good owners for German shepherds.

Instructions

1. Search for German shepherd dog rescue organizations in your area. These rescue centers give shelter to lost, unwanted and abused German shepherds and their goal is to get the dogs to permanent homes where they will receive proper love and care. Dogs here are often over a year old but sometimes you may come across a German shepherd puppy available for adoption. You may find a dog for adoption free of cost or at low cost at GSD rescue centers. Call up the GSD organization and find out the details. You may have to pay a small fee for the dog, depending on whether the dog has been spayed or neutered, vaccinated or has had a veterinary examination.

2. Find out about dog welfare groups in your area. Ask your veterinarian about rescue or animal welfare groups in your area. Your local pet store or groomers in your area may also be able to give you information. Another alternative is using resources such as Pet Finder. This website allows you to search for animal welfare groups in your area. The Humane Society and ASPCA are also two great sources for adopting German shepherd puppies.

3. Contact an animal shelter to find out if they have a German shepherd puppy available for adoption. You can get a dog for free or at minimal cost to cover spay/neuter and vaccination services. The cost would depend on the medical care the dog has received. If a German shepherd puppy is not available, ask when you can expect availability. Request that the shelter contact you if a German shepherd puppy becomes available for adoption.

4. Check the classified ads in your local newspaper, Pennysaver or other print resource. Often people's dogs give birth to puppies that they are unable to care for and they put them up for adoption.
