For instance, some charities may only accept new toys in their original packaging, not used toys from your child's playroom.

1. Locate Jewish charities in your area that accept toy donations. Some charities, such as the United Jewish Council in New York City, only accept donations of antique toys, while The Jewish Guild for the Blind, Early Intervention and Preschool Program in New York accepts a variety of tactile toys, games and books. During the holiday season, Jewish organizations throughout the country organize Chanukah toy drives to collect new toys for needy families. You will likely find toy drives in your area by contacting your local synagogue or Jewish community center.
2. Contact the Jewish charity to find out what types of toy donations they accept. If you are donating toys for a Chanukah toy drive, most organizations are looking for new, unwrapped toys for children under the age of 12. When contributing to a Chanukah toy drive, you can purchase new toys yourself, or seek out donations from friends, family members and co-workers to create a larger impact.
If you have used toys to donate, make sure they are clean and in good condition with no missing pieces or parts. If a toy is battery operated, provide new batteries to lessen the expense of the organization in receipt of the toys.
3. Bring the toys to the specified drop-off location as directed by the charity.
