Start An Adoptablock Outreach

Start an Adopt A Block Ministry

Adopt-A-Block is an outreach ministry based on the popular Adopt-A-Highway program. Local churches or charities instead adopt a neighbor that they care for on a weekly basis. The church builds relationships with the people in a particular community caring for their needs, spiritually and physically. The program first debuted in the inner city of Los Angeles, California, at the Dream Center. Relationship building is key to this ministry.

Instructions

Getting Ready

1. Meet with your outreach leaders and decide which neighborhood you'll be caring for. Discuss which neighborhood or block in your area you could most help. You could adopt an apartment complex or a senior citizen building.

2. Select a start date for your Adopt-A-Block launch. Announce the start date repeatedly leading up to the day. Create and distribute flyers around the community to help you enlist more help.

3. Gather equipment for your Adopt-A-Block outreach. Some examples would be lawn equipment and garbage bags to use cleaning the neighborhood. You might try to solicit donations from local hardware stores to help you supplement this need.

4. Teach your team about relationship building and the principles of evangelism. You could provide free training and role playing for practice. Teach your team to witness without carrying Bibles.

5. Prepare flyers or business cards to distribute as you go through the neighborhood introducing yourself and your organization. You might have your team wear similar t-shirts. You could provide one for each that showed your church or ministry name. Or it could just have a logo on it.

6. Launch your Adopt-A-Block outreach by taking your team into the community. Lead your people by visiting all the homes and tidying up the yards of widows, single moms and the handicapped.
