A PetFINDER ID tag is similar to other pet tags that attach to your dog's collar, except the PetFINDER ID tag allow you to keep the tag updated electronically without having to engrave a new one.
The System
PetFINDER ID tags use the FINDER communication system that was developed by Secure Connections. The FINDER system provides a toll-free number and an ID number unique to the pet.
The Tag
The ID number is printed on a collar tag shaped like a cell phone.
Getting Set Up
When you purchase the tag, you're supplied with a number to call that allows you to record a voice message about your pet and input three contact numbers.
When Your Pet is Lost
Anyone who finds your pet calls the toll-free number on the tag and gives the ID number on the tag. The FINDER system connects the caller to your first phone number, then the second and third if the preceding numbers aren't answered. The person calling never knows what your phone number is.
Updating
You can update your contact information and the message as many times as you need to by calling the same number you first used to set up the initial numbers and message. Updates take effect immediately.
